Abandoned Puppies Found In Suitcase
Abandoned puppies found in suitcase along with the puppies mother. This is just another example of animal cruelty. Why not take them for adoption and give them a chance at a happy life? The good thing is they are now in the hands of the Humane Society.
| Toledo police say a passer-by found the canvas suitcase with six 4-week-old puppies and their mother inside. The suitcase still had a luggage tag on it with the contact information for 53-year-old Howard Davis. The mother dog was also found to be registered to Davis.
“He gave us a story about the dog,” said John Dinon of the Toledo Area Humane Society. “He had given the dog away to some friends in Michigan, and that the suitcase had been stolen.” Police didn’t believe Davis’ story, and charged him with two counts of animal abandonment. The mother dog and her puppies, which are mixed-breed English Bulldogs, are now in the care of the Humane Society. Original Article Here |

Bill To Ban Dog In Laps Of Drivers In Rhode Island
Do you drive with your dog in your lap? I have to admit, I’m guilty. This is something I don’t think I could Change. My dog loves to go for a ride and he always stays in my lap and looks out. I think this is a ridiculous bill and I’m totally against it.
| A bill making its way through the Rhode Island state legislature would make it illegal to drive with a dog in your lap.
Introduced by Cranston state Rep. Peter Palumbo, the proposed legislation would call for fines of $85 for a first offense, $100 for the second, and $125 for subsequent offenses. Palumbo said he was moved to act after hearing from a constituent who witnessed a driver veering in traffic while trying to see around a dog seated in their lap. Original Article Here |

6,144 animals now have homes thanks to ASPCA’s Mega Match-A-Thon weekend. This is a great accomplishment. There are so many stray dogs and cats that need homes. Adopt an animal today while saving a life!
| According to the ASPCA, 224 animal welfare groups in 53 communities across the country found homes for 6,144 animals
during the ASPCA’s first-ever ASPCA ‘Mega Match-a-thon’ weekend. The ASPCA granted $492,250 to support a host of large-scale adoption events held nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals. “There were so many standout moments from the weekend that it’s hard to choose just one,” added Julie Morris, senior vice president of community outreach for the ASPCA. “Columbia, Mo.’s Mega Match-a-thon event got an extra boost from the oldest volunteer, 96-year-old Wilma Bader, who helped No-Kill Columbia prep for the event by clipping color-coded Meet Your Match adopter passes; The Humane Society for Southwest Washington in Vancouver, Wash. broke their own record for the most adoptions in a single day (44) within the first two hours of their event; Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston, Maine sped the adoptions process along – and got more animals into homes – with the use of iPad devices by their adoptions counselors; Bangor Humane Society in Bangor, Maine closed up early and went home after running out of animals; Rubbles, a 12-year-old blind Shih Tzu, was adopted from the Humane Society of Greater Miami in Miami, Fla. by a local soldier; and Riverside County Department of Animal Services in Riverside, Calif. is currently trying to determine if the more than 400 animals they adopted that weekend broke a record for the most animals adopted by a single shelter.” Original Article Here

Study Shows How Dogs Have A Positive Impact In The Workplace
Dogs are making another positive impact on man. This is an excellent idea to bring your pooch to work. Having your dog in the workplace will bring joy and love into the workplace, something that is much needed in most employment situations.
| Man’s best friend may make a positive difference in the workplace by reducing stress and making the job more satisfying for other employees, according to a Virginia Commonwealth University study.
Stress is a major contributor to employee absenteeism, morale and burnout and results in significant loss of productivity and resources. But a preliminary study, published in the March issue of the International Journal of Workplace Health Management, found that dogs in the workplace may buffer the impact of stress during the workday for their owners and make the job more satisfying for those with whom they come into contact. The VCU researchers compared employees who bring their dogs to work, employees who do not bring their dogs to work and employees without pets in the areas of stress, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and support. Dognapper Sentenced
Justice is served. Dognapping is becoming more prevalent and this man received more than three years for his crime. I hope that this serves as a deterrent for future dognappers.
| The man who stole a Woodland woman’s bulldog and held it for ransom in a case that gained worldwide attention was
sentenced Friday to nearly 3 1/2 years in prison. Cowlitz Superior Court Judge Michael Evans sentenced Johnny Lee Jordan, 39, of Longview to 41 months in prison for second-degree theft and second-degree extortion, plus restitution to be determined. Jordan pleaded guilty last month to participating in the theft of Jagger the bulldog from his yard and working with others to extort money from the dog’s owner, Jennifer Thomas of Woodland. Thomas, who was in court with her husband and daughter at Jordan’s sentencing, said when Jordan gave his final statement, he tried to blame others for the crime. “He supposedly was apologizing but he didn’t look at us,” she said. “He tried to blame it on somebody else. He said, ‘I’ll admit to my part of it but there was another person.’ “ Jagger, a 2-year-old English bulldog, was stolen Oct. 4 from his owner’s yard. Thomas told investigators she began receiving text messages Oct. 8 demanding she hand over prescription drugs and cash if she wanted her dog back. Jagger was found dead Oct. 24 on the railroad tracks near Talley Way in Kelso. Original Article Here

Does Your Dog Have Hypothyroidism?
Does your dog have hypothyroidism? Hypothyroidism is a common ailment for many dogs. This condition can be caused from tumors, inflammation and the use of some medications to name a few.
| Hypothyroidism is the most common endocrine (hormonal) disorder in dogs and often develops between the ages of 4 to 10 years. It usually affects castrated male and spayed female dogs. A variety of dog breeds are afflicted with this condition, such as the golden retriever, Doberman pinscher, greyhound, Irish setter, dachshund, miniature schnauzer, Great Dane, poodle, and boxer. The disease also occurs in mix breed dogs and many other breeds.
Hypothyroidism can be divided into primary and secondary causes. Most cases are primary, which means that there is destruction of the thyroid gland from inflammation, degeneration, or infiltration with tumor. Inflammation of the thyroid gland is thought to be caused by the dog’s own immune system. Secondary hypothyroidism develops when some other influence causes the thyroid gland to produce less thyroxine. Examples include diseases of the areas of the brain that regulate thyroid gland activity, destruction of the thyroid gland from radiation therapy, surgical removal of the thyroid glands, or the administration of certain medications that affect thyroid gland activity.
